Good morning AFS families,
Frisbee Rob
This week we have had the opportunity to welcome Frisbee Rob into the school for our final PE&W (Physical Education and Wellness) residency of the year. Thank you once again to parent society and school council for providing funds to support our residencies, the casino (AGLC) dollars provide so many opportunities for our students. On Monday morning we learned that Frisbee Rob is a 13 x Guiness World Records Holder! Rob spoke about perseverance, attitude, setting goals, and working towards our dreams. Throughout the week every class has the opportunity to work with him each day. Today, Thursday, classes will be meeting outside due to our second grade 6 PAT (Provincial Achievement Test) being written inside the building. Please remind your child to bring appropriate clothing for being outside during the PE&W time in the morning.
School Council Dance
It’s the school council dance this week! Students (along with their parents) are invited by the school council to attend the dance from 6:30 – 8:30pm TONIGHT! All children must be supervised. This is a parent run event, no staff will be present. The Western theme promises to be exciting. Sign up online, or pay at the door. All families are welcome to attend, regardless of ability to pay. Enjoy!
Morning Entry
Please ensure all students are on time (8:38 entry time) on Friday (and every) morning. This week we have the Vincent Massey band coming to entertain us in the morning. They always do a great performance, with music, educational components, and a question / answer opportunity.
Drumming Residency
Next week we will start our Monday in a good way by welcoming back Adrian and Antoine for another day of drumming. Later in the week we will welcome the Little Red Reading House to AFS. Each class will have the opportunity to listen to stories on either Wednesday or Thursday morning.
Kindergarten Orientation and School Council Meeting
Next Thursday we will welcome all our 2026 kindergarten students for an orientation. If you know of a family in the community who will be joining us next year please remind them to check their email tomorrow for an invite. Later on that same evening our last council and society meetings of the 2025-2026 school year. Please join us, online or in person, to learn more about what’s happening at AFS, this year and next. Mrs. Warkentin and Ms. Mendoza will be our teacher presenters. You can catch up on what’s happening by reading the council and society minutes, and prepare for the meeting by checking out the council and society agendas. See you then!
Staff Appreciation Lunch - Baked Potatoe Bar
On Thursday June 18 we, the staff, are thankful that the council and society is organizing a staff appreciation lunch. This year we’re having a Baked Potato Bar! If you are able to provide any toppings to compliment the potatoes please sign up here.
Family Lunch Pizza Picnic
On Wednesday June 24 all students and staff will be having a pizza picnic. This is another all inclusive holiday lunch prior to the end of the school year. If you are able, please take a moment to sign up for pizza through the Healthy Hunger website. We look forward to enjoying a meal together, and send appreciation to all the volunteers who work tirelessly to provide our school so many opportunities throughout the school year.
Popsicly Day
It has become a tradition on the last day of school for council to provide one more opportunity for families to gather. Once again council and society volunteers will be providing popsicles for all students after the early dismissal bell on Friday June 26. Please plan to stop by to grab a popsicle, thank the volunteers for all they have done this year, and celebrate the start of the summer.
Have a great day.
