It’s another beautiful May day, we hope you are enjoying it!
Thank You
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for the AGM (Annual General Meetings) of the School Council and Parent Society last night. We appreciate your time, input, and participation. The boards were voted in and we’re getting ready for the new school year already. Mark your calendars for the next meetings on Thursday June 11 at 7:00 PM. See you then, if not before.
Next Year Placement
Regarding Class Placements for the 2026-27 School Year
In the new school year your child will be assigned to a classroom. All students will receive notification from their teacher on Friday, August 28. If we are able to, we will continue to plan and welcome our complex learners to school that morning (August 28), as outlined in their transition plan in their IPP, to meet their new teacher.
Working in grade-level teams, our staff members take into consideration many variables when assigning your child to their classroom. They include demographics such as age and gender, maturation, abilities and talents, and relationships amongst the students to create the best overall groupings. Please be assured our decisions are based on the best interest of your child and their unique academic, social and behavioural needs within the school context. If you require clarification about the process, or have information you would like us to consider in our vigorous process, please contact administration prior to May 14, 2026.
Grade 6 Farewell
Grade 6 families are invited to join us the afternoon of Thursday May 28 to celebrate their child’s accomplishment of finishing elementary school this year. The event will begin at 2pm, doors open at 1:45. Thank you to a group of parents who have volunteered to decorate the gym for this assembly. If anyone is interested in creating a yearbook please let Mr. Ramada or Mr. Rehak know, there are only a few weeks left to make that happen.
Residency's Coming Up
Mahegun Tails Drumming and Frisbee Rob residency
Adrian and Antoine Goulet will be here on May 21 and June 8 to share their drumming expertise with all students. Paperwork came home this week with a little more information and AORs (Acknowledgement of Risk Permission Slips) for all students to participate. Thanks for returning them as soon as possible.
Frisbee Rob will be at AFS the first week of June (4-7) to work with all students. We’ll start the week with a whole school assembly, followed by PE workshops that build resilience, physical literacy, and kindness! AORs will be coming home shortly, please return them so your child can participate in the PE component of this residency.
Once again, thanks to the Parent Society, there’s no charge to parents for these experiences. We appreciate all the continued support, both financial and personal (bother volunteering and working in partnership), that families provide us to support our educational endeavours.
Morning Start Time
Happy Mother’s Day weekend. We look forward to seeing all students at school first thing on Monday morning. A reminder that instruction begins at 8:42 AM. Please try to have your children at school to start entering the school as soon as the doors open at 8:38 AM. AFS is a wonderfully safe, caring, welcoming and respectful school environment.
