Dear Alexander Ferguson (AFS) families,

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Meet the Teacher evening on Thursday. We appreciate your time and engagement in your child’s learning. We look forward to working together throughout the year to ensure all students learn and grow.

Community Connections Day

This Wednesday is our Community Connections day. We are thankful to be able to welcome back David, the creator of last year’s scavenger hunt, to facilitate one adventure with each class this year. In addition we will be welcoming Doug, the original artist of our AFS mural, he will be sharing the process, from initial concept to now, with each class. We are still looking for more volunteers to support all classes as they explore the gully and enjoy the experiences. If you have our volunteer clearance, and are available for all or part of the day on Wednesday, please reach out, we’d love for you to be involved, and appreciate your support.

Child & Youth Well-Being Sessions for Families & Caregivers

The CBE invites all parents and guardians to join us for a live online series focused on supporting child and youth well-being. Hosted by the Recovery Alberta Community Education Service (CES) Program in collaboration with experts from the Calgary community, this year's sessions will explore a range of timely topics.

These sessions are free and provide information, resources, helplines, and services to support healthy child and youth development.

Alberta Education Grade 5 Literacy and Numeracy Screeners

Starting this year, in addition to our kindergarten through grade 3 students completing Alberta Education literacy and numeracy screening, all Grade 4 and 5 students will also take part in both screenings. At AFS, Grades 1 - 5 students will complete these brief assessments this fall.

Screening does not replace regular classroom assessment and has no impact on report cards or grades. Results help teachers identify students who may benefit from extra support, and any findings will be shared with families as part of our ongoing communication.

As always, updates are available on our school website. Please check it out regularly to stay informed.

Have a great week.
AFS Principal
Helen Sharpe
