Hello AFS families!

We only have 3 more days with your children prior to winter break. We hope that everyone has a relaxing break, we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday January 6!

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our winter assemblies last week. The students really enjoyed performing for you. Having so much positive energy in the building is always a highlight. Our next sharing celebration will be the evening of Thursday May 1. Please mark your calendars now. Just like last week there will be two performances. We will NEED your child to participate in both performances. If your child will not be able to attend, please let their homeroom teacher know as soon as you know. Thank you.

Tomorrow, Wednesday December 18 is our HOLIDAY LUNCH. This means that ALL staff and students will receive pizza, as well as a mandarin orange, candy cane, and juice box for lunch. AM kindergarten students have been invited to stay late to participate. PM kindergarten students have been invited to come earlier to participate. It is the only time all year that we have ALL our students and staff together, we are very much looking forward to this time.

If you DO NOT want your child to receive any or all of the holiday lunch items, and you haven’t already shared, you must let their homeroom teacher know today please. Thank you.

Lost and Found

We will be donating all the lost and found tomorrow, Wednesday December 18, at 9am. All adults were invited to take a look last week as they left the assemblies. All students are encouraged, daily, to take a look. They have also been reminded today to make sure they have all their belongings and to take another look.

Furniture Donation

A big thank you to Conoco Phillips for donating furniture to the CBE and Alex Ferguson School. Last week we received a number of pieces that are now in use around the school. You’ll find some cozier seating near the east doors, couches at the front doors and outside the gym, more seating in the learning commons, and various items within classrooms. The students, and staff, are very excited to receive these additional seating spaces throughout the school.

Learning Commons Update

We are very excited to announce that we have some new shelving in the Learning Commons. The bottom shelves were all installed yesterday. That’s why the Learning Commons was closed for students 😉. You’ll also see some “new” two sided shelves . These are our old shelves that the contractor put back to back, added wheels, and put a new top on. They look amazing. The cupboard doors are also new. These 5 shelving units now house all the teaching items that were in filing cabinets, opening up more floor space for student use while being very functional within our school environment. Thank you to the school council and parent society for their continuing support to revitalize our learning commons. Stay tuned. We have more to do, which will hopefully happen before the end of the school year. Thank you again for your support of all fundraising and casino events, the additional funds truly make a difference to our school.

Best wishes for a safe and enjoyable winter break. See you in January!
