Good afternoon current and future AFS families!

Eid Mubarak to all who celebrated this past weekend.

FYI – today’s air quality index was 7. All students were kept inside the school over the recess times based on recommended precautions. We’re excited that tomorrow the index is expected to drop to 4 and we can all go outside again!

We have 3 weeks left with your children this year. There’s still a lot to learn. Grade 6s having PATs (Provincial Achievement Tests), classes are travelling around the community, it’s fun lunch next week, we have council and society meetings this week, as well as two assemblies before the end of the month. PLUS everything that is happening in classrooms!

Holiday Fun Lunch

We are starting a new tradition! Thanks to the generosity of the school council and parent society, as well as all the parents who volunteer their time to support our fundraisers (including the casino), and those who donate funds for lunches, we will be having another holiday lunch. Much like before the winter break when all students received pizza in their classroom, next Wednesday, June 18, all students are invited to picnic with their lunch staff and homeroom teachers outside. Cheese pizza and juice will be provided for all students who have not purchased lunch through the Healthy Hunger website. Students who have ordered cookies can expect to receive those at the end of the year. There’s time, but only till Friday, to order your child a specific lunch and/or donate to help fund this special event. Due to the last minute change in plans kindergarten students will not be included in this lunch. If you do NOT want your child to receive cheese pizza (from Papa John’s) and/or a juice please email your child’s homeroom teacher before Friday June 13. Thank you.

Assemblies

On Friday June 20 we will be having a farewell assembly. This will honour all the kindergarten – grade 5 who are leaving AFS next year. Students will also be sharing songs they have learned with Mrs. Wackett. If you’re able to attend please email your child’s homeroom teacher for more information.

On Tuesday June 24 we will have a grade 6 farewell assembly. This will honour all our grade 6 students who will be moving up to junior high schools in the fall. Grade 6 parents, please check your email, your child’s agenda, and or ask you child for more information.

School Council and Parent Society Meetings

This Thursday, set your reminders to join us in the learning commons, or online, for our last council and society meetings of the school year. Get involved in shaping our school for the coming school year!

Calgary Public Library’s K-12 Ultimate Summer Reading Challenge

It’s back! With prizes for all ages. The 30-minute virtual kickoff event is June 12, 18, or 25. Students can learn how to participate in the Challenge, the prizes they can win, the programs and services that will be at the Library this summer, and some great reads for their summer reading lists. Check it out.

Enjoy the rest of your week.
