Fundraising
This just in! AFS Parent Society Casino dates are set for Monday April 7 and Tuesday April 8. LOTS (as in 40+) volunteers are needed to make this event a success. Please mark your calendars for a shift, no police clearance is required. Sign up information will be shared shortly. You can plan on a shift from about 10 AM – 7 PM or about 6:30 PM – 3:30 PM, or about 10 PM – 4:00 AM. THANK YOU for your support. The funds generated from the last casino are providing paying for the Jube school art residency in February, March, and April 2025 (showcase is the evening of May 1), as well as the AusKicks Football residency in the spring and the week long Fit Set Ninja residency in January. AND that’s just the residencies! The funds will also help reduce field trip expenses this year, provide more books in the learning commons, provide additional math/music/PE/social/science supplies for classroom use, pay for our visits from Metis Elder Kerrie Moore, AND additional adaptive equipment (such as the rocking chairs and fidget cushions in classrooms). That’s all just this school year, funds were also utilized to support learning all last school year. Your support of this fundraiser is greatly appreciated, thank you for finding time in your busy schedules to volunteer on these casino dates.
Planned Road Closure
A reminder about the planned road closure starting this afternoon at 1 PM. It’s the contractors intention to have 26 Street dug up and then back to being useable by 6 AM on Monday morning. Thank you for sharing with your neighbours to help everyone avoid the detour.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Next week you’ll be able to sign up for conferences (Thurs Nov. 28 and Fri Nov. 29) starting at 10 AM on Wednesday November 20. Bookings will be open, through your MyCBE account, from Wednesday until 8 PM on Wednesday November 27. Please pick a time to come and meet with your child’s teacher. The book fair will also be open for browsing during conferences.
Meal Prep
Thank you to council for always coordinating a delicious meal for the staff each evening. A sign up has been created, please check it out and sign up if you are able to help out with set up and clean up (no police clearance required) or provide some food. Our break is from 6:00 PM – 6:30 PM, having the food prepared and available is so greatly appreciated, thank you.
School Council & Parent Society
Council and Society meetings are next week at 7 PM, Thursday Nov. 21. Ms. Willow, our newest grades 1 and 2 teacher, will be sharing a bit about what has been happening in room 5 so far this school year.
Everyone is a member of the council, and everyone is invited to join the association. Please come and find out more about all the support these two groups provide to the school. If you have any ideas for how to support please bring them up, as well as ideas of how to facilitate! All our parents are very busy, everyone wants what is best for all our students, if you have even a little bit of time to help support some of the initiatives it is appreciated.
Information about the council and society is always available on the school website. You can also check out the council agenda and society agenda. Want to catch up on the last meetings? Check out the council minutes and society minutes too. See you on Thursday, either in person or online.
Have a great weekend.
