Good evening AFS families,

As I hope you are aware, a province-wide teacher strike is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 6, 2025 and classes will not be in session. This will affect school operations, including extracurricular activities and planned trips.

  • All onsite and off site trips scheduled during October are cancelled until further notice. This includes our Celebration of Learning, Picture Day, McDonald’s Fun Lunch, Room 1 & 6 Fish Creek Trip, and our Halloween Gathering. We will provide updates when possible.
  • CBE will continue to share central updates, please check your email regularly for official notices. An overview of labour action can be accessed on the CBE website

We know this news may be disappointing for students and families who have been looking forward to these opportunities. Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and continued support as we adjust. Please know that our school community is approaching this with steadiness and care. These next days bring uncertainty for students, families, and staff alike. While we cannot predict how long the disruption may last, we are committed to walking through it together with patience, compassion, and kindness. Again, we are grateful for your partnership in supporting student learning at Alex Ferguson School and I know that we will navigate this time with understanding and care for one another as the strong school community we are.

Lunch Program

For our families who access lunches through the BB4CK program, a letter was sent home with your child yesterday sharing information regarding accessing food during the labour disruption. If you did not receive the letter and require support, please reach out to BB4CK.

For Your Consideration

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join a live online series on supporting child and youth well-being. The series is hosted by the Recovery Alberta Community Education Service (CES) Program in collaboration with local experts from the Calgary community.

Attached to this email is a poster with sessions designed to provide families with knowledge, tools, and strategies to help navigate the challenges and opportunities of raising children and teens today. Along with the poster, additional session details are available on the Child and Youth Family and Caregiver Series.

Take care, we look forward to welcoming students again as soon as we are able.
