We hope you all have a great break and look forward to welcoming students back om Monday, March 30.

Culture of Shaganappi Food Sampling Event

We have some exciting news to share. On that first Monday morning all AFS students are invited to join us in our Culture of Shaganappi food sampling event. With support from some local restaurants we have put together an event that promises to be memorable.

Between 10:45 AM and 12:00 PM (noon) on our first Monday back (March 30) we will be sampling Spring Rolls and Dumplings from Bow Bulgogi, Samosas from Dosa Kingdom, Perogies from Heritage Deli, as well as Halal Falafel and Cheese Pitas from Beirut Bakery.

  • If we have a record of your child having any food allergies you will have already received an email sharing the ingredients of each of the food items.
  • If you would like to see the list of ingredients, please send me an email and they will be shared.
  • If you do not want your child to participate in this event please send an email to me and your child’s homeroom teacher and we will respect your decision.

Send a Small Plate

Please send a small plate with your child on Monday, ideal in a plastic bag so they can bring it back without getting their backpack wet. Students will be encouraged to wash their plate in the classroom sink after the sampling event.

This event is possible due to funds received from the Federal government food program that encourages students to be introduced to new and varied foods.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Conferences are tonight and tomorrow!

If you haven’t signed up, please call the office and find out when between 3:45 – 8:15 PM tonight (March 19), or between 8:00 – 10:00 AM tomorrow (Friday, March 20) would be the best time for you to have your child tour you through their work in their classroom.

Lost and Found

During conferences please also take some time to check through all the Lost and Found items, they will be donated over the spring break.

Dress for the Weather

Please remember to send clothing with your child that will, hopefully, be appropriate for the weather that day. In Calgary our weather changes quickly. Winter coats in the morning and rubber boats in the afternoon is a common occurrence. Please do your best to send your child with the clothes they will need each day. If you are in need of outer clothing, please let us know and we will do our best to provide support.

Celebrations of Learning

A reminder that your children are hard at work preparing for the celebrations of learning on Wednesday April 29 and Thursday April 30. Each family will be invited to one evening. If one of those evenings does NOT work for your family to be at Alex Ferguson, please tell us before Wednesday April 1.
